Why does metal ceiling need to be perforated?

Time:2022-06-08 Views:3534

If you observe carefully, you will find that there are many holes on the surface of the ceilings in many places in daily life, such as subways, schools, offices, and conference rooms.

Perforations in the ceiling give them a special look, and many people will also wonder why perforations are needed in the ceiling?

The primary purpose of metal ceiling perforation is to absorb sound waves and reduce noise in the room. In fact, the perforated ceilings seen in daily life are often referred to as sound-absorbing ceilings by industry insiders. This article will mainly introduce the working methods and uses of sound-absorbing ceilings:

First, sound-absorbing ceilings are usually made of fiberglass, acoustic foam, polyester, and other noise-reducing materials.

How the sound absorbing ceiling works:

The first thing to understand is that sound is caused by vibrations occurring at the source of the sound. And it propagates one after the other by causing the molecules adjacent to each other to move back and forth. The sound that people hear occurs when sound waves hit the eardrums.

When a sound wave encounters an external object in its propagation path, three things usually happen:

1. Absorbed by objects;

2. to pass through an object;

3. Bouncing off objects or changing the propagation path;

Depending on the characteristics of sound propagation, acoustic ceilings are designed primarily to absorb them and prevent them from bouncing around the room. So the holes (also called perforations) in the sound absorbing ceiling increase the surface area of the ceiling and trap sound waves in it. The vibrations in the sound waves are absorbed by the perforations and dissipated through the ceiling tile material.

In addition to absorbing sound waves in a specific range, acoustic ceilings are used for the following purposes:

1. Sound-absorbing ceilings can help prevent sound from propagating from one room to an adjacent room, that is, to achieve the effect of sound insulation. This is useful in office and school settings where there may be privacy or confidentiality concerns. Acoustic ceiling tiles can absorb or block sound waves so that the sound becomes blurred, thereby blocking the transmission of sound.

2. The sound-absorbing ceiling can also reduce the transmission of sound in the upper and lower spaces. Avoid being disturbed by the sound of the upstairs residents, creating a relatively quiet environment.
